Agreed--definitely the most sensible reaction. If I had the nerve, I'd link your post on my own LJ. But since it'd be seen as a direct reaction to some of my flist's posts...well, I'll just stick to kudos here. :)
I think that my key issue with the new stuff is that there's no real deterrent to people who want to spam LJ Abuse out of their own annoyance with a person. I know it's a hard thing to police, but I'd quite like a threat of journal suspension if the flag is misused, even it it ends up never being acted on.
That said, as someone who has avoided having people younger than 16 on her flist, I like the ability to tag certain things as being available only to people willing to declare themselves adults. If they want to break the rules, that's fine, but it takes the onus off me.
I agree on both points. The flagging thing just makes something that idiots could already do *easier*. It remains to be seen whether it has any lasting effect at all, good or bad.
hey so I red your story you wrote for lostandalone22 and wanted to say that you did an awesome awesome job on it I admire that you can write so much and so well :D and yeah it rocked
Hear, hear. A very sensible and reasoned response, much in line with my own thinking.
The only thing about it I really object to is the fact that the default setting for my own searchs had been automatically set to the 'no explicit material' option. THank you, LJ, for giving me the option, but I'm an adult. If I want my results to be filtered, I'll do it myself, thanks. Having said that though, this was pointed out in LJ's original post (I'm wondering if some people actually read it all the way through), and was easy enough to change.
