High-Speed Internet in BFE Query

Does anyone know how to get high-speed internet or dsl way out in the country without getting a dish? Since my mom quit her job, she doesn't have e-mail, etc. They want to buy a computer and get high-speed, but they can't get dsl where they live. The only other option they know of is to get directv; I guess cable internet or something like that ( Read more... )

Sattelite internet is pretty slow and usually very expensive. Directv is sattelite - not cable.

If they can't get DSL, see if there's a cable company that will run them JUST internet service.

If not, the only other option would be some sort of broadband wireless service, which SOME rural areas have, but not others.

Yeah, I know directv isn't cable, but to me being able to have anything besides network tv coming through a huge antennae on the roof or rabbit ears is "cable." :)

I don't think they can get anything then. No one where they live has real cable (no cable company will go out there). All they can have is satellite, but even then few do.

I'll do some research though. I really miss e-mailing my mom:(
