I moved my batch of mead into the secondary fermenter this afternoon and measured the gravity at 1.025. I don't have the recipe handy and I don't remember what the ending gravity should be ( Read more... )

Yeah, the racking process seems to have reinvigorated the yeast. Rate was pretty slow before racking, but is now going about once every six seconds. Looks like you'll have a pretty strong mead on your hands. So far, it's at 9.825% ABV from a drop of 1.1 OG to 1.025 FG(assuming the formula is the same for mead as it is for beer).

9.8%, eh? Sounds good to me. What was that comment about someone's lady wanting to get loose in a hurry? ;)

I don't remember the exact comment, but I belive my reply included the phrase "liquid panty remover".

I just checked the recipe, and ending gravity should be approximately 1.005. That's after a month in the secondary.

The recipe gave an approximate starting gravity of 1.100 rather than the 1.112 I measured, so I don't think it'll get all the way down to 1.005.
