Top Ten Thursday: Gifts Edition

Feb 11, 2010 12:09

Since the overrated V-day is around the corner and amidst the prix-fixe menus offered by most restaurants, I've decided to do a gift edition this week along with five bonus picks for men!

Top Ten Wish List for 2010
(and not just for V-day).

1. Hermes Birkin 35cm

Was there ever a doubt that this item will be numero uno on any of my (for that matter any woman's) wish list?

2. Eddie Izzard DVDs

All his stand-up gigs. I've always appreciated his humour and I am even more impressed now that he ran 43 marathons in 51 days!

3. Rado Integral R20784152

4. T3 Bespoke Featherweight Hair Dryer

Before moving to Hong Kong, I hardly ever used one and now I can’t live without mine (literally the first thing I bought when I arrived here). (Almost) 5 years later, it's dying a slow and painfully loud death.

5. Kindle

Because if there is one thing I love more than bags and shoes combined, it’s reading. I thank my mother for inculcating in me the importance and love of reading. I am fast reader (super fast when compared to Mr. P) and when travelling I carry at least 3 books. I finished the entire Twilight series in 4 days and that was in between work, wakeboarding and watching football. A Kindle would be nifty especially when I am jetsetting around the world.

6. My own herb garden (on our balcony)

Along with cherry tomatoes and pandan plants. I aim to make my own pandan cake one of these days!

7. Ikea Billy Bookcase with glass panel doors

To be used as shoe display storage unit in our spare room. Given that we don't own our place it doesn't make economic sense to pay for bespoke capentry work. That, though, is on my long term list right after buying our own place!

8. Mulberry Alexa

Like I said, I am not entirely convinced if I should buy one. But I'd definitely welcome it if it is a gift ;p

9. La Femme Nikita and Nikita DVDs

10. Christian Louboutin Lady Claude Leopard 100mm

I missed it during the HK sale and again during the UK sale (Matches). Would love to have it except I am too cheap to pay full US retail + USD 30 shipping.

Bonus section - Gifts for Him

1. Oris Watch (for that matter, Raymond Weil, Omega, Rolex - if he is old enough to be your dad, IWC, Tag, etc)

You can't go wrong with a good quality Swiss watch, especially if you are feeling rich. Although I have to say I'd rather save it for a better occasion than a Hallmark created one, like his birthday, your wedding anniversary, etc. My current fave is Oris.

2. Mont Blanc Pen

The sister and I have this running joke that only insurance agents (male and female) carry expensive pens - that's another story. But if your man is of a certain position at work, it's nice for him to be signing away people's bonus documents with a proper writing instrument than a cheapy ballpoint. Plus it can double up as the sign-the-marriage-cert-pen (no feathers please!).

3. Rocky DVD Box Set

95% of the male population I know adore like Rocky, even the non-boxing fans. It's a great gift not only for the boys; you get to cuddle up with the significant other and enjoy a Rocky marathon. Mr. P and I did just that (part of his birthday present), and because the films were so dated, we had a right royal laugh! Fun times peeps, fun times.

4. An iPhone

This has been across the board one of the Top Christmas / Birthday gifts for men in the last couple of years. If he is still not on the bandwagon get him one (and stop him from borrowing yours to play Bejeweled!).

5. Send flowers and candy to his office (not applicable this year)

Why not truly embarrass surprise him by sending him flowers instead. He'll be the butt of the jokes the whole day!

Tease him a little with the following note:

Dear , thanks for last night. Love, Dave. (Not in your handwriting of course) Geddit???

That's all folks. Off to do some work and wifey duties (having dinner with Mr. P’s two bosses tonight).

What are some of the stuff on your wish list or gift ideas for your men?
