I don't think a tractor will fit on the 1000 mile long ferry ride on my new trip. Nor do I suspect it will do well with the 3500 mile swim. How bad can the rest of the driving really be, as long as you make it a point to go during the appropriate season? :)

Actually, I think this is the best thing about Google Maps, currently. :P

Ayup, you have identified the change in the engine that allows me to plot ludicrously long trips :) Alas, they haven't set a route across the Pacific (that I have found). The itinerary I have mapped involves 4500 miles over water.

Still working on the significance of the Boston-Le Havre route; Le Havre is a landing site for some undersea cables, but as far as I can tell none go to Boston. Significant historical sea voyage, maybe?

Nono, not just that--follow the instructions and read direction #23.

Unless, you've already noticed that, in which case I'm just dragging out the joke too long and it isn't funny anymore. ^^;;

Also--ignore the icon there. That was NOT the icon I meant to go with my comment. ^^;;;

Yeah, "Who's driving?" is the biggest question on my mind. Because much as I'd like to come along on something of that sort, the answer is very much "Not me." XP

As I've noted above, the driving portion isn't as long as it seems -- a modest 6500 miles in my current itinerary. Though you might have a minor objection to the last instruction on leaving Boston...

I thought you were the one who couldn't swim?

Swim, yes. Float... no.
