UVELIUS, the SU700NET UPS system that protected the original
velius.chaos2.org host, has passed away. At its height it was
charged with providing power for half of the chaos2
network, including power services for velius,
quistis and shion. It faithfully protected these
systems from power surges and brownouts over the years.

I hate DoS attacks.

In unrelated news, my gateway is now dropping traffic for a significant
chunk of the Russian Federation. Hopefully my new friends in Russia will
eventually get the hint and move on from my little /29 slice of the
Internet...

Why the hell are laptop manufacturers all migrating to widescreen
displays? Am I the only one left on the planet who values vertical
screen real estate when doing actual work, and who values using a laptop for
work-related activities rather than an overglorified DVD player? It seems

Coming up on end of year. In no particular order:

  My hindquarters have spent more than 50,000 but less than 100,000
  miles in an airline seat on United during calendar year 2007. That sets my
  2008 status at 1P. There were
  33 days this year in which I stepped on a plane -- that's one travel day

I have wonderful news: as of this evening oboro, the new
storage array that is less than a month old, is fully redundant again.

( Yes, I said *again*... )

Everyone remember oboro.chaos2.org, this little guy? Yeah,
it crashed today and is merrily synchronizing its RAID array now. That
certainly didn't take long. No clue what killed it, I don't see anything
interesting noted in the logs. It was simply unresponsive to network
traffic when I got home.
