As Ran-kun opens the door to this particular study, he'll find he's hit jackpot. Not only has he found the Shinichi he is looking for -- other Conans barely tolerate being treated as a child. They would object strongly to sitting on someone else's lap. This one is not only happy where he is, but is cuddling -- but he's got found a bonus Shinichi he wasn't even looking for! Shinichi glances up as Ran enters, nodding in greeting but quickly turning his attention back to the story that Conan is reading him, as engrossed as though he is hearing it for the first time.

Ran stared at him for a moment, then slowly let go of the rope, looking shamed.

Conan blinked at him. He knew Ran well enough to know he meant it. "Oh."

'Oh?' Ran leaned on the windowsill and just raised an eyebrow back at him. "You know we're just worried about you, right? And not because we don't think you can take care of yourself," he added quickly. "It's just... the Conan thing isn't really easy for anyone."

Conan pouted. "I don't want you guys to worry about me. I want you to stop treating me like I'm a baby."

The karateka propped his chin in one hand, looking put-out. There was really no in-between with this Shinichi. "Then maybe you should try telling us what you're thinking for once so we don't have to guess."

"I can't do that!" Conan sounded almost panicked.

"Shinichi, we aren't going to abandon you or anything if you tell us what's going on," Ran said, exasperated. "My Shinichi and I plan stuff out all the time! That doesn't mean I can think like him!"

"Why should I believe you when you already treat me differently? Ran and Kaito too! Ran acts like I can't do a thing for myself and Kaito never wants to hang out with me!" Conan glared.

"We don't know what else to do because you never tell us anything!" The karateka scowled, face darkening. This argument wasn't going anywhere. Dammit, why couldn't he just make him see? "And I don't know about Kuroba, but your Ran's probably still getting used to it! You only changed, what, a month ago? And you've got the drug messing with your head."

"You do so!" Ran's scowl deepened, and he slammed his hands down on the windowsill as he straightened. "You want us to trust you more but you won't even trust us in the first place!"

"Look who's talking about being a jerk!" Ran's retort was just as quick. "When's the last time you trusted one of us? You didn't tell your Ran you knew her secret, you won't tell any of us what you're planning, and you never actually talk about yourself while you spy on other people all the time!"
