He drinks Nick, and then does stupid things. Kent court for minor DUI. He blew a .04, half the legal limit for an adult. If he had been of legal age this wouldn't have been a problem. Result was fines, suspended license, classes and who knows what. Aberdeen court, went down to the ocean with friends for his birthday and got drunk, partied a little too loud and the cops showed up ... charge... minor in posession. Puyallup court, charged with driving on a suspended license... see Kent court above. If he had taken care of these thing earlier it would have been better... lesser fines ... fewer warrants. But the good thing is he's learning!
The BEST of Christmas to you and Dan !! I can't think of a better gift for either of you - than to be together for Christmas. He's very lucky to have you in his life - and the reverse is also true. My experiences taught me that when the day comes that these young guys recognize how much joy they bring to us (rather than concentrating on the things we might do for them), they turn the corner. We need them - don't we? :-)
We do need them ... and I wouldn't trade this experience for anything.
I kind of hate to waste the things I've learned with Dan, but I'm not sure how to use it. I know there's no shortage of people that need a helping hand. Maybe I should try the Big Brothers program for awhile, and get started on the long road to adopting a teen or two.
The DSHS needs all the help it can get. We had 4 foster-boys in Seattle in the 70's, our own were teens in Vancouver in the 80's, a bunch more at an 'hogar' in Chile in the 90's - and now things are boring :-) And you're right! We do learn a great deal about them - and about ourselves - when we get to play a part in there lives (and they, a part in ours).
Some day, have a look at Griffin Home - on Lake Washington in Renton. (Just North of the Kenworth and Boeing/Renton plants). Drop in and they'll give you some "Friends of Youth" brochures - tell them that Tom R. sent you (I was President of FOY/Griffin Home in mid-70's). Do I dare ask what he did in the first place?
