43. [Video]

[There's a slow pan-across of the storm clouds. Chris's voice comes from behind the camera.]

Bloody...look at that. S'goin' t'be massive.

[He turns it back to himself. Behind him is the roof of the Police Building, if you're inclined to recognise it. There's also a shelter-y sort of thing built out of parts of a desk and a sort of tent thing, ( Read more... )

So you're staying, too?

Yeah. Don't really like boats, me. So if I can stay away from the ark an' still not drown, that looks like the best sort of option.

Why don't you try staying inside the Station?

Reply

justcautious September 29 2010, 04:31:05 UTC
Cos it might not be high up enough.

[Police Filter]
I didn't mess up the filter, yeah? You can see what I said t'Beckett? She gave me a bit of description of the scum that has 'er. I can try an' copy it out if you need it.

[ooc: aaand I promptly mess up the HTML. I blame Chris.]

The floor of the uppermost level of the Station is approximately twelve feet below you. If it floods enough to reach that level, then the pressure of the water on the building's infrastructure may be enough to make the building collapse.

If there's going to be enough water to wipe out the top floor of the Station, then being on the roof won't do you much good. You might as well be dry.

[Police Filter]
The filter's fine. I used the information she gave you. Thank you for that.

[ooc: I wish I had someone to blame...]

[All of that was very confusing for Chris. He settles for:] I'll ask Ray.

[Police Filter]
Okay, yeah, see it now!

[ooc: It's great! I make a ridiculous grammatical mistake and I can say, "Well, clearly it's from writing his text posts. Chris again!"]

[not even filtered, because seriously, why bother] horrible_penny September 29 2010, 04:39:37 UTC
I went to help build and this guy told me I was being paired up with someone, so... boat it is. The dogs're good, too, and I'm trying to figure out what to do with Babbage, Cabbage, Doris, and the pigeon.

Will you guys be okay up there? What if the wind picks up? What if there's a lot of lightning?

[not even filtered, even if he was trying to avoid making Ray cross by bringing his bird into it] justcautious September 29 2010, 04:46:52 UTC
Okay, well, long as you're on board. I reckon...Babbage an' Cabbage can be 'animals you own with rhymin' names' and Doris an' the pigeon can be 'birds you own'. Yeah? Fits into pairs, then, that. Two coppers I know went as a pair cos they both have names that start with 'R' and like spaghetti so if they got on with that, your animals'll be fine.

Me an' Ray'll be fine too. Only, that's a good point. Should prob'ly set up a wind shield or sommat. Dunno about lightning, though...

[not filtered because Penny is not Chris' bird--sexism and objectification?--and can't code well] horrible_penny September 29 2010, 04:54:16 UTC
That's perfect! Thanks, Chris--that'll work, I think. You're brilliant.

I hope so. Is there any metal up there? And rain and lightning's just a bad combo. You're not allowed to get electrocuted or anything.

[not filtered as Chris can't code either and doesn't get what's wrong with Penny being his bird] justcautious September 29 2010, 05:06:46 UTC
[Now THERE is something he doesn't hear often. Or ever.] ... Cheers, Penny!

I'll try an' stay away from it. There's prob'ly metal, but won't the lightning hit it an' not us, then?

[Ray eventually returns, dumping a few large bags of takeaway near the entrance of the tent. And, yes, Chris; he has seen your video.]

Couldn't've wasted your time findin' sommat more useful than lemons? 'Ere, you bring up anythin' t'heat this lot up with?

[Action] justcautious September 29 2010, 15:05:41 UTC
I tried. Everythin' needs a plug-in. I found a generator thing but I couldn't lift it past th'room it was in.

[Chris carefully pulls the bags inside and to the back of the tent which is against a wall before he comes out again.]

The rain'll jus' put a fire out, won't it?

Reply

[Action] makesfolktalky September 29 2010, 20:27:00 UTC
Yeah, fire'd go right out. Don't matter, then. Don't 'ave t'eat it warm. Dunno if usin' electrics'd be a good idea in flooding, anyway.

Sure you got everythin' else up 'ere?

I should do... [He crawls back in to take a look through stuff. There's probably stuff to sleep on of some sort. And folding chairs. And other random stuff. But nothing really useful in the real world that isn't the 70s. That's right--the 70s isn't the real world. Wasn't. Ever. It's a myth.

Chris crawls back out looking a bit nervous.]

Think I've got everythin' but...Justin says we may as well go inside, cos if th'water reaches the roof, th'whole building'll jus' crumble, or sommat. Think there's anythin' to that? Should I find a life raft in case the building goes down?
