I just saw it, finally. With Michael Moore's reputation I'd refused to give anyone money to watch it on the big screen, but this evening I was flipping through the channels looking for background noise for reading, and it just happened to be starting. I think that the socialization that we undergo in our society first engenders a feeling of uncertainty rather than fear. What the media provides is a focus for that uncertainty -- a boogeyman if you will -- that allows us to avoid personal responsibility for our condition and instead place that responsibility on another group. This is done by propagating fear. When there is something identifiable to fear, our uncertainty is explained.

I am so going to be seeing "Troy" later this week I think. It's true, we don't really recognize warriors and conquerors, and there really aren't many acceptable ways for those personality types to achieve what they need to in order to feel fulfilled.
