How could I have forgotten from my not-so-comprehensive book list the one novel I've read lately: Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson?

This past weekend in Cadiz, I picked up some more books to add to the piles on the floor (shelves are full). One was America's Arts and Skills by the editors of Life, which shows all manner of things made in America ( Read more... )

I love your 'critical mass' theory of learning French!

When I was a kid (like, about five/six) I had a theory that if I slept with an open book next to me, I'd wake up and all the stuff in the book would have seeped through into my brain - a bit like the hypnosis tape theory, except... not. XD

Ooh, I'm all intrigued by the Neal Stephenson books now as well *adds to by-now vast list of books to read/sleep with*

Have you read the Impverse Jack Sparrow/Jack Shaftoe crossover stories in impofperversity? If not - run, don't walk, to the userinfo page where all the stories are listed. These stories are so much fun, and so well-written! Unfortunately, it's no longer being updated.

I have dabbled with them, yes (heh, as in, I've read the one with Will, Danny and Jimmy, and a couple of the other stories) - but now I'm interested in reading where Jack Shaftoe came from. I admit, it's sort of difficult for me to read a fic (even when it's written by the wonderful, peerless tessabeth) when my OTP aren't together - it makes me feel a bit, I dunno, sad, I suppose. But then I'm weird like that XD.
