Mitts again

I've embroidered around both thumb pieces now, and put a blanket stitch around the thumb opening and arm opening. I don't think I like it though, it looks too modern-crafty. What do you think? Is there a stitch that would be better to finish the "raw" edges

Well, we're supposed to represent 1780, so that's my vague goal. :)

Thanks! I had planned to do the herringbone stitch up the side seam too, but I don't know that I'll ever get to that.
