Title: Elements
Author:
just_unravel
Characters:  River/Jayne
Word count: 500 (5 x 100)
Disclaimer: Yeah, they're not mine.
A/N: I put together all the drabbles that made up this series into one post and (finally) added the last part to it.

AIR:  River forgot how to breathe when Jayne walked into the galley after his morning workout. It was as if the Black followed him in and vacuumed the air out of her lungs. This sight of him-shirt damp from sweat, skin glowing with heat-caused the oxygen to choke in her throat.

As he came closer, she gasped; he finally took notice of her.

“Whatcha holdin’ yer breath fer? I don’t smell that bad,” sneered Jayne.

When she remembered how to perform the basic life function, she let out a long sigh. She wished to breathe more of him in.

WATER: Damn, if she ain't lookin' like a tall glass of water on a hot day. Wearin' that blue dress with them ruffles. Looked like a river flowin'.

No shit, you stupid hun dan, it's her gorram name.
Lookin' so cool and smooth, like she would satisfy any man's thirst.

Ah hell, you can't go 'round thinkin' like that. Just find yourself sucked out of the airlock or in Shepherd’s special hell.

I’m already goin' to hell, so I might as well look, right?

“Jayne!” Mal yelled, looking annoyed. “What do you want?”

“Water,” Jayne replied, turning back to the bar.

FIRE
: He was born of fire; she knew this when he was this close to her. His fingertips sparked when they came into contact with her skin and his lips burned when they pressed against hers. She knew he was born of fire and that he wanted her to burn him out.

Desperately clinging to him, she tried to keep control, not wanting the wildfire to surround them.

But eventfully, she parted her lips and finally allowed his flames to engulf her. She knew he was born of fire and that she would rise from the ashes as his true phoenix.

EARTH
: Felt like the earth was shakin’ or mebbe that was just his knees. Whatever it were, it started when she grabbed his hand as they were walking out the cargo bay. Damn, did he feel nervous.

He never felt nervous ‘round any trim. Then again, she wasn’t trim-she was his. The ground could open up and swallow him whole, but it don’t matter ‘cause she was holding onto him.

“What’s wrong, bao bei?” he asked when she stopped the trek.

“Not strong enough to pull you out if you go under.”

“’M not goin’ nowhere. Don’t you worry none.”

CREATION:  They don't know how their story will end, but they knew how it began.  How the different elements of their beings merged to form a new whole.  Theirs was a story of creation.

When they stood at the altar in front of their beloved family, they promised each other eternity, promised each other everything. And they meant it. Because to them, the entire ‘Verse was theirs to give to each other. The moons, the stars, the heavens and the earths-all were created just for them so they could eventually find each other.
And together, they created love...and life.
