I have no idea if it's just my personality in general, or my autism, or whatever, but whenever I'm addressing someone face to face, I never, ever use their name unless things are getting heated, or someone is saying something embarrassing, or there's some other strong emotion involved ( Read more... )

No, I never call anyone by name when I'm talking to them; it disturbs the flow of conversation, in my opinion.

It also grinds my gears when someone calls me "Ma'am…" during a conversation, and especially when they do it constantly. I'd rather they said, "Y'know" over and over.

Aha. There was something else about name use that irked me, and I simply couldn't put my finger on it - you just enlightened me.

It disturbs the flow of conversation. It's a needless word, and it disrupts things. And I really hate that.

The constant use of 'Ma'am' or 'Sir' seems ingratiating and sniveling, to me. Luckily, I'm at the point where no one would call me Ma'am anymore, and they're not sure if they could call me Sir. :) It's all good.

yes!

and unneccisarily Paternalistic, in the case of "sir". the only person I've caleld SIR in my life is a Judge.
