I usually reserve praise for people I like, but…

::golf clap::

Well played, McCain. You picked someone young and well-liked that has the potential to pull you back into relevancy, and snag those disillusioned Hillary supporters at the same time. You’re more calculating than many gave you credit for.

McCain didn't pick her. Steve Schmidt did.

Young and well-liked has nothing to do with it---they're going for tits, plain and simple. Turn on Fox News for a primer.

There are very few Hillary supporters; a good chunk of the disillusioned flakes were Republicans who'd never have voted for her in the first place. Even batshit crazy estimates place the amount of "Hillary" voters who are going for McCain at 20%.

That said, they may have just found the right amount of doubt to fix the election for McCain this go around.

But it's also not going to scare off the Republican Christian base that is already a little wary of McCain. This is why it's such a brilliant tactical move. He chooses a woman which makes him look all maverick and not-a-typical-old-white-man, he gets to court the centrist non-liberals who liked Hilary for her gender but also for her status-quoness and who don't have strong opinions about actual feminist issues, he chooses a woman who is fiercely anti-choice which makes his opponents within his own party happy ( ... )
