I can't believe my new employer asked me to get a doctors' note by monday to allow me to wear headscarves. This is unfortunate for the following reasons ( Read more... )

i'm sure a wig wouldn't be counted as a head covering if you wanted to go that route....otherwise maybe you can go to a drop in clinic on the weekend? explain what you need? they're usually pretty good

Trichotillomania is a serious problem that not enough people recognize, it's sad really.
I'm sorry you're having a hard time *hugs*
oh... and don't mind me, I just stumbled across your journal while browsing ^_^

Personally I wouldn't do anything. That is so damn offensive. Did you explain the reason why you wear a head covering? I would probably go in with the head covering and if anything was said I would just remove it then and explain. If they still have a problem just don't wear it. Obv that depends on how comfortable you are without it though. I would say a wig would not count as a head covering. I think what really annoys/upsets me about this is if someone had lost their hair through cancer treatment would they still victimise them in this way and demand a note? I'm also concerned about them 'researching' your online identities too. Wow.

I found your LJ through the blog Those Headcoverings. I'm so sorry that you have to go through with this. It's absolutely ridiculous.

A wig might be a good idea, but it also might mean that your employer will insist that you always wear a wig instead of other coverings because it's more professional looking.

I just found your site. I am another trichster and I have been looking for more blogs to follow. It seems so unfair about the situation at work. In any case, half the doctors don't even know about trichotillomania anyway, or they think you should 'just stop'. Good luck on showing them what it means. I also have a trich blog at http://ontrich.com. I think it's really important to raise awareness :)
