REGARDING CIVIL CHARGES FILED AGAINST BEN ROETHLISBERGER:

You may remember the inappropriately familiar Schmuck from Temple, whom today we shall call Asshat. Asshat de-escalated recently, so I put off having a confrontation with him. Today, however, my better judgment did not prevail. My temper won the day. I debated about posting, but three ( Read more... )

That settles it. We need an icon that reads,"Here's your sign."

Then we can staple it to the foreheads of all the asshats out there ....

I really want one with a picture of Alice Paul and WWAD? across the bottom. Because Alice Paul would not have stood for this.

I recognize that this might be a false accusation. He's a high-profile guy, and wealthy. He's not denying that there was a sexual encounter. It is possible that she is after his money.

But I never expected, inside of a socially progressive community, to find someone with his head quite so far up his ass. To the point where his rectum would not admit basic facts about rape and rape prosecution in this country.

I don't follow football and hadn't heard about this. Thanks for all the links. The majority of the comments posted on the sports sites sound like they could have been written by your idiot. I wish there was a way to handle rape cases without publicity until after the trial. It would make things easier for the victims. I have no idea about what really happened, but my first instinct is to side with the woman.

Thanks for all the links.

De nada. I was in a link spam kinda mood after that. I wanted to shove the internet in his face and make a liar out of him, but you know...impossible...and poor taste.

Tell me about it. I had no idea ESPN was so bloody stupid, either. I mean, there's dumb, and there's above and beyond the call.

Ay-yi-yi. I'm thankful the issue isn't one I've had to deal with too personally, but you know what causes me the most WTF-ery about this? It's like the guy never had an original thought on the subject, just spouting every tired cliche he's ever heard about victims of sexual assault.

I run into a lot of people like that in RL. It never occurs to them to question. Every "opinion" they have is spoon fed to them by their parents, their brother-in-law, their pastor or, nowadays, the internet, and that's what I hear when I read his side of the conversation: a bunch of canned comments that don't mean anything. Even he doesn't know what he really believes about this, or anything else.

Not that it would have done him much good in this argument, because you...*laughs*...hooly moly with you and the linkage. You have slam-dunked this one and done a victory dance under the backboard. Seriously, cheerleaders are scattered like bowling pins. How come you're not a lawyer?

And not just the victims, but the legal system! Like, our criminal justice system is easy on victims. Rapists are punished. Rape is treated seriously by everyone.

How come you're not a lawyer?

HA! Because I would one day be compelled to climb into the jury box, grab someone by the collar, and shake them until they listened to me. And then they would put me in prison for contempt of court. Also, I would be totally miserable.
