Why is the census so groovy hip cool, you ask? Because it determines federal funding for hospitals, roads, schools, etc. It also determines the number and location of Representatives in Congress, since those are based on population.

On the form it says they need it because they may call me if they are 'confused'. *head tilt*

Gotcha. So, when all of these papers get to the census office, there will be an ARMY OF NERDS whose only purpose in life is to process the forms. What if, for example, someone named "Jordan" or "Ryan" forgot to put their gender down. They might want to know. These nerds, they care. Deeply.
