I think that the LotR show should not have ever been advertised as a musical. They've sort of dropped that tagline but it stuck, everyone thinks it's a musical and it's not at all. It's a play that has some songs in it but you could get rid of every song and not lose any plot, ergo it is not a musical.
When I saw it I guessed that it would be the hardcore LotR fans who would enjoy the show a lot... from what you say I guess this is not so... As a musical fan I was not overly thrilled with the show. I didn't hate it but I wouldn't see it again and I was sure glad that I had a free ticket lol.

When I went it was still sitting aroung 4 hours long and it was just too much so it's good to hear that it's settled to about three, that's much more manageable.
