Itsa Carina Nebula! Eta Carina is easily among my favorite astronomical images, period.

Tell me how the Hubble thing is: if it's good, my 6th graders may well get themselves a field trip :)

Totally forgot to reply to this!

Hubble 3D was split into two parts: (a) getting Hubble in the air/the people involved in keeping it functioning, and (b) what Hubble has to show us. (b) was INCREDIBLE. (a) was frustrating, because yes, we should give the astronauts due credit, but the movie was only 45 min long and I really just wanted to see more inside novas and galaxy nurseries (which, again, is AMAZING).

So... definitely worth a watch, especially if you want to get kids into space stuff, but I wish the film was longer or more focused on the findings and less on the process.

i am immensely jealous of your Hubble Imax event!

I absolutely love that movie (Danny Boyle is probably one of my favorite directors of all time)! It's funny you put it like that because a lot of critics of the movie say that it's really great until the third act. I, on the other hand, love it front to back!

... and now it's funny you said that, because I watched the second half yesterday, and WTF, the plot TOTALLY jumps the shark. It's like Danny Boyle spent the first hour creating this beautiful film, and then the last hour seeing how fast he could trash it. Psychopathic, murderous space man who thinks he can talk to God? Whyyyyyy?! I'm glad you like it, because maybe now you can explain it to me.
