Where I'm from originally doesn't have this Christmas, as far as I know, but in Japan, yes, it's a romantic holiday, I had gathered. Or a time to eat chicken. I think.

It does not sound like much of a bad plan, to me.

Oh, and wearing 'santa suits', I think? They were a very pretty red...

[The grace of the woman's swordsmanship catches her eye. Tybalt would be quite jealous to see anyone wield a sword so well.]

The machines do seem to find us when we are not aware quite often, Lady. Your skill with a sword is remarkable. I have not seen such before. Were my cousin here, he would be most impressed as well.

[And she blinks.]

A holiday for lovers? It is the celebration of the birth of Christ, Lady....

That they do. But my skill is only just passable, and I have been neglecting it for a long while, here.

[An owlish blink back.]

The birth of who?

You are most humble, Lady, to say such things.

[Another blink.]

Christ. The Lord Jesus, son of God in the Christian faith. The holiday is named for him.

[And realization hits.]

You are of a different faith, Lady. And yet, you celebrate the holiday? That is most curious. May I ask from where and when you come?

You are far too kind, Nee-san.

I do not know of that god, but it is good to know which we are paying tribute to.

Where I come from, no we do not celebrate this Christmas. The turning of the year, yes, that is a time of celebration and new beginnings. And festivals for various things throughout the year, but. Christmas is a tradition in the living world. Many families celebrate it, and I learned about it from-- from my friends. They did not mention this Christ-sama of yours, but there are apparently a great many traditions associated with it in Japan.

Ah, not at all, thank you, Kyoraku-taichou. Simply a few kata, while the weather is appropriate, nothing more.

I hope you're not trying to argue with me. I'd probably come up with a very convincing argument, you know.

Of course not sir. I wouldn't dream of it.

[Ukitake watches her practice, a proud little smile on his face as he does. It isn't often that he gets to see Rukia like this and he knows a good portion of her skill comes from having been taken under Kaien's wing.

He's sure Kaien would be proud of how far she's come, as well.]

Christmas is a holiday for spending time with those you care about, from what I've picked up. And an excuse to give out many gifts to them.

[She's better than she was when she started out, most certainly. And it's because of Kaien and all the others in her life that have pushed her to get better and better, whether through encouragement or even trying to kill her, like Aaroneiro. But she has come a long way since her uncertain, strange self fresh out of academy and newly noble.]

Much like the new year then, from what I had gathered. Why do we not celebrate that instead of this Christmas then?

Because every culture and group of people is different, of course.

Of course... I simply wonder if there are more people here who are used to celebrating the New Year as a bigger holiday than this Christmas...

They do seem to. I had hoped, by leaving it with my jacket, that I could avoid that, but ah well, it seems not.

[A small laugh]

Very true, though I have not yet been in such a situation. Nor do I hope to be!
