Kid fic and non nuclear families or why I like reading kidfic

Fandom that I haven't read at least twice.

The other day I started wondering why I am so fascinated with these types of fics.

Most interesting meta I've seen in a while, thanks! ;) I haven't written J/B in some time, but that plot about the kid being snubbed by the stranger who resents them being together is very tempting.

Do you even qualify to write meta if you have only even written 1 drabble?

The reason I am so hooked on the snubbing plot is that it recently happened to me. I was on holiday with my sister and my niece in the Drakensberg and there was this woman there with two children , one of whom was my niece's age.

This woman was one of those really effusive talkative types who will start a discussion with anyone but she wouldn't even look at my sister and me.

I didn't call her on it but I swear she thought my sister and I were a couple. It was quite an eye opener to be discriminated against like that.
But the reason it really bothered me was because ever time the daughter tried to approach my niece, Mommy dearest dragged her off to do something else or sit somewhere else.

It was actually quite heartbreaking really.

Some people... *rolls eyes*. It's sad that society as a whole is not over it in the 21st century. Me and one of my (straight) best friends have a couple of times been mistaken for a couple, so I guess I know what you're talking about.
