so...I got hired in tampa to work as an EMT to begin with and then a paramedic in a few weeks! Annnd then the next day i went and put 300$ on a really sweet house. I'll be living with 3 other peeps, but i don't mind at all because the place is really really sweet ( Read more... )

House sounds AWESOME. Hope your roomies are good but I had a quick question. What is the differnce between an EMT and a paramedic? I thought they were the same thing

yea it seems that no-one really understands the difference unless you're actually in the medical field. It's pretty simple to explain tho..

EMT- Requires 250 hrs of schooling, (took a little over 3 months to finish) and you basically learn how to transport a patient without making them worse. Period.

Parmedic - Requires 1100 hrs of schooling (took almost a year) and you learn advanced procedures such as intubation, ekg readouts, cricothirotomy's, and IV access, as well as the ability to administer drugs. Paramedics have the skills and knowledge to determine the nature of the illness and treat it accordingly, instead of just simply transporting to the hospital.

so there it is. plus, medics make 7-10,000$/year more than emt's. So it's kind of a big pay difference, which is why the sooner i'm upgraded the better :)
