Thank goodness McCain has shown us his true nature.
Just another moral Nazi riding on the back of an elephant.

McCain's not a nazi...just a spineless blob who will shape himself however he thinks is best to try to get elected in 2008.

I watched that episode of Meet the Press late at night the other night (must have been on MSNBC). I lost all respect for McCain. Until now I thought he was a good guy, while idealogically to the right of where I am. I respected him, and I respected his point of view. His dancing on MTP was so obvious. He was bending so hard, trying so hard to do the right thing, say the right thing, that I realize he can't be trusted.

He backed away from clear and consise comments he made in 2000, where he complained about being beat up by the ultra-right wing because he's more moderate than they are. Now he's trying to backpeddle and get the support of those people. It made me sick.

I see where you're coming from, but to me, if he wears the uniform (supports the view, or even doesn't condemn it out-right) he's in the party.
I'm surprised it took you this long to see it.
Jim and I have been spitting bullets at this poor excuse for a man for months.

I agree. He's no Nazi, and neither is the GOP. No more than the Democrats are Commies. My take is similar to yours.

Of course McCain is making peace with Falwell. He is firmly hitching his wagon to the existing Republican machine and hoping it will get him to the White House. He tried the maverick path and got squashed. I do not know if he actually held the values he used to endorse but if he did he has thrown them over the side. He never had my vote and he sure is not going to get it now.

As to the fundies, well, delivery on the promises made to get elected will drive them away from voting Republician faster than non-delivery. As long as God in schools, abortion, etc. remain on the table they can serve as points to motivate the base with. Remove them, by actually changing laws, and the base goes away with the issues.

Motivating the base has a great ability to get you help, especially in regard to $$$$$. When they found vaccines for polio, the March of Dimes had to find a new cause or die...

And no organizational bureaucracy will go willingly to its grave.
