Murdoch, NewsCorp, and hacking:

Highly recommend the Grauniad….er, the Guardian’s coverage on this story.   And the New York Times has been adding its bit.

My own take is that we’re just seeing the beginning of the lift-the-rock-and-see-the-bugs-scatter part of bringing down News Corp in all of its various manifestations, and ti’s going to come on like a freight train.  But we ( Read more... )

I must admit I am IMMENSELY enjoying seeing the Murdoch clan squirm and their fortune and reputation fall to pieces.

I'm looking at this as a great example of "reap what ye sow" and such things. It makes me feel good when people who lie, cheat, buy their way out of trouble, take advantage of others, and are cocky about getting away with it DO finally get that bad karma back.

I have a question about that whistleblower guy, Hoare or whatever his name was. According to the article, he was found dead at home and his girlfriend Jo was out of town. Three police cars and two ambulances arrived on the scene, and waited there for 4 hours until a couple described as "grieving relatives" arrived. Neighbors across the hall were surprised but hadn't seen him in a day or so, and he was very chatty with other residents. His cause of death is not currently considered suspicious/foul play.

So who called emergency services in the first place to say he was dead, if his family, girlfriend, and neighbors didn't know Hoare had died until the police told them?

All I can do is think how prescient Mike Royko was in refusing to work for "the Alien" as he called Murdoch when M. bought the Sun-Times.

Because a girl can dream: Between propping up the stock price and paying for legal defense, Murdoch bankrupts himself. Newscorpse is purchased for a song by George Soros and Al Gore.

That's not a dream, that's a nightmare.

I wonder if it's really as simple as it appears to be in the emerging narrative. Right now it looks like Murdoch is the Evil Mastermind with the worldwide network of minions doing his bidding. It's an appealing narrative, and I'm quite willing to accept that he's an evil bastard, but I find myself wondering if he might be a tool of something else.
