Susan managed to drop her new Centro phone in the sink, and it’s apparently good and fried.  We got a Torx T-6 to open it up, and she and Rich Rostrom were working on it, but it sounds like it’s a goner.    So she’s getting a essentially-free-after-rebate replacement…she uses her PDA constantlty, and backs it up regularly, so it’s not a total loss…

Ouch! :( I've heard that many electronics will still work after being wet, if you let them dry out thoroughly. My niece's cell phone went through the washer and appeared to be dead, but she let it dry for a few days and it worked fine. At least Susan backs hers up regularly. That's really a good thing.

I once did the same with my mobile phone. It seemed to be completely dead, but I left it on top of a radiator for a couple of weeks to dry off, and it worked fine for another couple of years. I also had a laptop which a friend on mine managed to pour a whole pint of cider into. I took it apart and laid the pieces on top of a radiator, and that too came back to life after a week, though some of the keys were a bit sticky ever after!

I saw a study a year or so ago that showed the most common ways that people break their cell phones. #1 was by drowning...

At least she dropped it in the *sink*.

I drowned a Palm T5 romsfuulynn January 6 2009, 05:01:55 UTC
and got it repaired.

Chris Short ips at chartermi.net repairs Palms (I assume including Centros) at very reasonable prices. He charges $5 for an evaluation, if I recall correctly. I've used him several times.
