General update:

Yes, I will be at Windycon over the weekend.  I’ll be not-very-mobile. I’ll probably locate a prime lurking post and hang there a lot.  Mere will be with me.

The docs took out the last of the foot stitches, and the wound has come open again, about an inch worth.  The docs and Susan are really strong on the NO PRESSURE ON THE FOOT HOKAY????  part ( Read more... )

I am sure that I am not the only one at WindyCon that will be willing to help you if you need help and I am in the area. Please try to ask for help if you need it. We won't always see the problem that we can help with. I know it can be difficult, but you have friends at Windy that are very interested in getting you back on your *healthy* feet.

Minicon has (had?) a wheelchair. Any possibility Windycon or the hotel has one?

The trick is that Susan's not able to do any pushing, even if a chair were available. And I can't ask someone to push me around all weekend. What will happen is that my MIL will drop us off and we'll stick around for a while, and Mere will be 1000% more mobile than I, and have her own badge. I'll hang out in the con suite, or the lobby, or something like that, and stay pretty put. I'll have the 'roll-a-bout' to move around as absolutely necessary.

Oh the knee arthritis -- Susan has my sympathies. It starts out slow and only gets worse. It won't get better. I live with it every day. I've done physical therapy and that helps a TON. You basically train your leg muscles to handle the weight and motion your knee does. It works wonders. The shots in the knee are great too. They reduce swelling a lot and ease most of the pain. It's done very quickly so the shot pain is quite minimal. Of course weight loss will help too. It's a lot easier to say than do, I know for certain. Ibuprofen is great too if you can stomach it.

Yeah, I figured most of that...I was NOT expecting it to be something chronic. She's seven years younger than thee and me, and I didn't expect this so early.

Despite what we're told, rheumatoid arthritis isn't a 'disease of old people,' it's autoimmune.

As opposed to osteoarthritis, which is for codgers. :-> And The Injured: since breaking a toe about ten years ago, John's got a creaky weather-joint there, because of how it healed and so on.

FWIW, it doesn't sound as if this is rheumatoid. I mean, I didn't see the x-rays, but..

I shall probably glom onto your lurking spot and lurk beside you now and then, if that's all right. :-> There are times when pacing up and down the halls is the only bearable option, and other times when I have to find (hah) a comfortable lounge position and fall over for a while.

By all means. I'm curious to meet (sort of) la habitant.
