So, I've been to like 2 conferences in my life. One of which wasn't really a conference although it was called one and was just like 10 people (CyArk and a few other 'collaborators'). I can see it. I can almost touch it. But I can't quite reach it just yet... it's so close! Everything very soon will determine my future. And I'm optimistic. I know I've found something I love. Goodbye, 1st World!
Well friends, it is time for me to join the comrades. Tomorrow morning I depart for my next greatest archaeological adventure: 6 weeks in Merv, Turkmenistan. Yes, that's right for the first time in my life I travel to a 2nd world country. I've done the 3rd world before, but now it's off to a former Soviet territory. TB or not TB?
So I had to get a TB vaccination before going to Turkmenistan. It's a long, disgusting process. The vaccine causes a papule to develop on your arm over about 4-6 weeks, which then bursts in a blood, pus-y mess, leaving you a 1cm ulcer. Which then takes another 4-6 weeks to heal. Audrey and I have a very close, special friendship. We met in Computer Science class at UC Berkeley. We were both ecstatic over getting a C+ each in INTRODUCTORY CS. I was an Electrical Engineering and Comp Sci major, she was a Comp Sci major. We should have known right there we weren't meant for that career. skylights
I like having skylights in my room. It's raining right now and there's such a soft pitter-patter of rain drops hitting the glass. It's not raining too hard. I don't like it when it rains really hard because then the noise is loud and keeps me up at night if I'm trying to sleep. But right now it's a soft rain. So I just purchased and downloaded a 2-disc 'Definitive Collection' album from iTunes. A total of 37 tracks and it took me about 10mins. I remember when Napster first came out. I had 56k dial-up and it would take ~10min to download 1 megabyte. And so, on average, a 3-4MB mp3 would take 30-40mins to download. 30-40mins to download ONE (1) song. ( Read more... )
