[Translation] Wink Up 09/2011 Cold and Tasty (Fresh Juniors)

Here is the translation of one of the fresh junior pages from the September 2011 issue of Wink Up. This one features Yūta Jingūji, Rin Takahashi, Fū Takahashi, and Yūya Taniguchi.

These four boys got a little hyper from the cold and sweet shaved ice. They talked about their favorite festival booths and food and summer festivals.

Yūta Jingūji: I go to a festival every year, yo. It’s a local festival, so my friends and I go around to the booths wearing yukata. The booth that I absolutely always go to is the target practice stall! What have I won? Hmm, I somewhat recall winning something that I didn’t really care about (smile). The food stall that I like the best is the one that has chocolate bananas! But I also can’t pass up the grilled chicken (yakitori) and grilled corn (yakitoumorokoshi) stands. Dried apricots… There are probably lots of people who call them “prunes,” but I’m someone who thinks of them as mandarin oranges! Yeah, apricots are definitely mandarin oranges after all (smile)!

Rin Takahashi: Every year, I always go with my family to the festival held by the nursery/elementary school that I graduated from. It’s a festival that has a lot of booths, and my favorite food stalls are the fried octopus balls (takoyaki) one and the savory grilled pancake (okonomiyaki) one! I have a special pan for making fried octopus balls at my house, so I can use that, and I can eat the pre-made, frozen ones at home too. Aside from the food stalls, the booth that I like is the target practice one. The amount of chances that you get is set, but I think that you have to keep trying until you succeed. Once I even won the game cartridge that I wanted!

Fū Takahashi: Because my mom tells me stuff like: “you can’t win at the target game” and “a goldfish {that you get from the goldfish scooping stand} can’t change it’s own water” (smile) the stands that I look forward to going to at the festivals are the food stands. But I’m not good with foods like grilled noodles (yakisoba) that are spicy. I love sweet things, so I go to the candied apple stand and the hardened sugar candy (bekkouame) stand. My favorite is the cotton candy! Cotton candy is a food that you can only eat at festivals, right? I haven’t gone to any festivals recently, so this year I definitely want to go to a festival and get cotton candy.

Yūya Taniguchi: Buttered potatoes, grilled noodles (yakisoba)… there are tons of food stands that I’ll absolutely go to (smile). And also, at the target stand, if you get the ball into the cup, you score! I’ve won tons of game cartridges and cards from it. I’ve gone with my friends to the local festival that takes place in a park lots of times, but I never wear a yukata. I usually just wear regular clothes. I also go to the festival in my grandma’s neighborhood. Speaking of wish, before I set off a lot of fireworks but I haven’t done any recently, so I really want to.

All the boys seem to like the target practice booth. At first, I assumed that it was like darts, but based on Taniguchi's description, it's more like a ball toss game. Fū's mom's comments made me laugh; she's too practical xD. I also really liked the smaller pictures of Taniguchi and Rin, especially the one where Taniguchi is trying to feed Rin and Rin's facial expression says: "wtf no!" Jingūji clearly had no such problem with being fed by Fū =D.
