Dear all,

The word "insure" means "to guarantee against loss or harm." The word "ensure" means "to make sure or certain." Thus, when you "insure" something, you agree to make someone whole for a loss. (In a similar vein, I got a letter from the school asking for parents to help their children practice reading at home. "Your support can effect your child's success in school.")

Nice. I used to get in...er... healthy debates and discussions with a partner I worked with over things like that. I didn't want him to look like a moron, he was apparently fine with it.

I normally don't flip out much over things like that, but I see that one all the freakin' time and it drives me nuts. Seeing it in a formal brief for the court was one time to many.
