I almost had to stop getting online...swimchick13December 19 2005, 20:09:32 UTC
...when I had all of my back problems for the very same reason. If there is a fear out there, someone else exists with a get-rich scheme of their own to exploit that fear. I was convinced I'd never walk again and that if I had back surgery, I'd die during the procedure. And look at me now. The other thing, too, is that I'm sure a lot of the parents who never have issues either way with their child's sleeping positions never put up a website about it. Only the parents who have a problem or something sad or negative to say, do. This could make it artificially seem like bad things happen to EVERY baby in America, when really the chances are not all that high

Wow- what a great reply. I have very little to add except to say that this is an awesome post and i really think some day you might want to consider gathering all of these posts up for a book. Ok, I've now deleted like 4 sentences in trying to write this reply, so I guess I'll just leave it at that- swimchick13 speaks for us all I think in saying you are amazing and that taking the time to find a doctor who has some people skills is well worth it. xoxo

I hope your post was cathartic for you, because it was for me.
I was going to relate my coping mechanisms for snotty babies and sleep, but I don't think I'm adding anything more useful to the conversation, except a hearty second to the comments previously posted

This doesn't sound funstillh20December 19 2005, 23:44:26 UTC
Damn girl, this whole thing really sucks and then to top if off the pediatrician is an ass. bahhhh...
I have a question, why are new parents so heavily encouraged to go to a pediatrician? Growing up, I went to the family practic docter as I sure many of us did. When did the times change? Is this another way to capitalize on parents fears? Go to a specialist instead of a general practice dr?
Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. I am not the most baby literate person, but I cook a good meal and bake fabulous cookies. I also give fantastic hugs.
tee hee hee, sorry but this brings back so many memories. Luckily we had a wonderful pediatrician the first time around. howevver, we got a sucky one when ours was out of town and had to see someone at a clinic. Advice I can give, wether you take it or leave it... you decide :) . First of all ALWAYS go with YOUR instincts. You know your child better than anyone and do not be a passive participant in their care be an advocate for your child and if you know what is best for your child do it. that being said... Sydney was a tummy sleeper I wouldn't put her on her tummy because I was scared to death she would die in her sleep. We would put her on her stomach while I sat in there with her and then would roll her over after she was asleep and luckily she has always been a heavy sleeper. Then comes Ryan he was a fussy baby no matter what we did he grew out of the fussiness after 7 -8 weeks or so, it was the longest 7-8 weeks of my life. After our kids were past the sleep on tummy/back stage (once they can roll themselves over it's a mute
