my hatred for this institution is bottomless

Sep 10, 2009 19:20

I wish I had made a recording of our Anthro grad student meeting today.  Then I wouldn't have to explain why I hate my department and my school so effin much.  I don't want to explain it.  I know I should be grateful we're getting funding AT ALL, but seriously, the way this system is set up is a huge shitshow.  There is no central authority to ask ( Read more... )

That sucks major balls, for lack of better term. That sounds so annoying! I think I do understand the bullshittyness of it all, but you either fight or flee, and I know you'll kick their asses in the end. Or something. xDD

LOLz at the caffeine hands comment. I can just imagine what your post looked like before you edited it. xDD

Yep yep, it sucks. Luckily, it's not THAT awful because it doesn't affect me every day, but I just had to rant about it. ^_^ And yes! I will kick their asses. I just need to have faith in myself and my determination, which has always been one of my good qualities.

LOL, it was kind of a typo orgy. XD I totally overdid it last night. XD

Inter-department messiness fails. I'm sorry you have to go through that, but at least you know where YOU need to be, and not be part of their shitshow. (Whoot on writing the novel!)

I read a quote that made me think of you: "In just refusing to retreat from something one gains the strength of two men"--Shungaku, quoted in Hagakure: The Book of the Samurai. You know what you want and where you want to go. Then go for it, girl! :D

Thanks for the encouragement! *hugs* That quote IS perfect, wow. Unfortunately a lot of their messiness affects the students if the students aren't 100% proactive and aware of all the places they could fall through the cracks in the system. But in the end, it does work out one way or the other. I'll be strong! ^_^

*rubs temples* That just sounds like a bunch of shit that I don't want to deal with, ever. I don't have enough drive or motivation for it to be honest. I'm glad somebody does. Ugh, grad school. *pets*

Also, I would buy ANY OF YOUR NOVELS SERIOUSLY, FUCK. Eeeee~ would be so awesome if you blew up so big. I can totally believe and see it happening.

I know right? It's really a huge pain the butt. Undergrad awas nothing like this, and I'm not sure how much of that is a function of the school, the department, or the fact that it's grad school. >>

YAY. There is one with gay boys!! I haven't done that much of it though...need to work on those things. ^_^

THAT IS SO AMAZING KSPEOWMCXVKJFU$TNV9TI35DXVCAWJF:KLJ SFD I AM EXTREMELY ENVIOUS.

I'd love to go to Harvard!
Most people my age aren't even thinking about college right now, but I'm definitely aiming for Harvard.

Is it really hard to get in? Were your grades absolutely spectacular (i.e., 4.0 GPA)?

I need some reassurance that admittance into Harvard (hopefully) isn't nearly as impossible as I've made it out to be.

*blushes*

Well, I'm a graduate student there, so it's a little different. ^^ Admission is highly selective, but in a different way -- very program-specific. My archeology program admits three students each year, but I have no idea how many apply.

For college, I didn't even apply to Harvard, but I did attend another better very comparable school, which rhymes with fail. It's very hard to get in there too, but I mean, I did, and all my classes were full of real, living people, so it's clearly not impossible! ^_^ I think I got one B in high school, and definitely a few A minuses, but I can't remember how many, honestly. It was a long, long time ago. *is a fossil*
