I had this boyfriend back in college. Let's call him David. David was a genuinely nice guy: he was friendly, wasn't mean or cruel to anyone, and he was generally positive about life. Good for you for standing up to this guy! It can be so easy to let a partner persuade you to do things you wouldn't otherwise feel comfortable with, because you trust and love them. I'm glad that you didn't fall for his crap.

I too went out with a David. For three years, in fact. I still won't acknowledge his presence 20+ years later even though I've got both his sister and mother on Facebook -- his mother, in particular, was so kind to me during that period that I'll never forget her.

His big thing was "Girls have no fucking clue how to drive." At the time he didn't have his own car, so guess whose car he used?

Oy vey. You're definitely better off without that one! I'm "weird and goofy and introverted" too (well, mildly introverted, more shy I guess) so I certainly know where you're coming from!
