Definitely. You can tell that it was made with the prospect of being passed on to the next generation in mind. It survived since the 1700s!

Fortunately there´s a whistle to call for help should the baby choke on the rattle´s bells! Nowadays babies die of toxicities in plastic rattles.

Hehe, it's funny, that's what most people think, and it was my first thought as well. But I wonder if it ever happened? I'd bet there were fewer babies harmed by such rattles through the centuries than by the phthalates, lead, mercury and whatnot in baby toys during the last years.
