Have you ever sorted the books in a charity shop?

You have books. Many books. Which have been sorted about 15 years ago, if at all. Outdated books, books nobody will ever read again ("HTML for beginners, 1998" or French language course including twenty booklet and 20 vinyl singles...), all just randomly stuffed into the shelves.

I love books, and I think people will buy them if they can actually ( Read more... )

Your welcome for the Panda.

I wish you LOTS of Good Luck with your "sorting books" project.
I think your hard work will pay off.
Organization is a great thing!

I'm horrible with this type of project I get so distracted.
I start out fine then it becomes "oh I haven't seen this in ages" and I start skim reading or "this would be such a great place to visit" and I forget what I'm doing and get nowhere.

I admit that it takes a lot of self-restraint NOT to sit down and start reading. :D But it paid off; though I'm not finished yet, the book sales of those parts I've already re-organised have significantly increased. As people can find what they are looking for more easily, they buy two or three books on the same subjects.

Tomorrow I'll tackle thriller and crimes. Wish me luck!

I have a bookshelf and a cd shelf that need organizing. Are you for hire? LOL!

Wow! That's quite a task. I sorted my own books recently and it took a whole weekend. I can't imagine how long it will take to do a whole shop! I'm quite sure your efforts will increase sales though.

I hope I'll be finished this week. I leave the guidance books till last, though. ;P I noticed an increase in sales of those subjects that have already been sorted; especially in the "Animal and Nature" section. People don't only buy one book on cats or gardening, but two or three, because they are all in the same place. :)

I sort of wish that even the ridiculous, wrong, outdated ones could go on Google Books before the paper gets recycled. You never know what a historian (or a historical novelist!) will want a century or two hence -- like that Victorian-written history of the Old Dover Road in pre-railroad times that I lucked into finding. I suspect that someday, the fad diet books will be as fascinating to a novelist as the 18th-century beauty recipe books are to me!

True; today's recycling might be tomorrow's historic treasure. Just like the stone age and bronze age, our time might be categorised as "Atkins Age" one day! :D
