I have been blessed to have seen the Lippizan perform when I was young, and it was magnificent then. I am so glad you got to see them on their own grounds (humble indeed!) and so many other wonderful sights!
I can't imagine wasting food like that. I think I've worked too hard to put food on a table, and wasting the fruits of labor like that...well, it would annoy me. I'm with Mrs C's mother!
It was fantastic! Unfortunately we didn't see them perform (lucky you for seeing them!), but we visited the stables. I'm determined to catch up next time, when we'll hopefully have a little more time.

Same here. I hate wasting food, and people who throw perfectly good food away make me angry.
I've been thinking of you when I stood in front of the beautiful baroque organ! The sound is amazing, and hearing Bach played in a baroque church on a baroque organ is probably the closest we can come to hearing his work the way he intended us to.
What stuck with me the most from my first trip to Vienna were: Schloss Schönbrunn and Hundertwasserhaus - a wonerful blending of history and modern times. It seemed to me that no other city could hold such treasures with such grace.
We have the Lippizan horses in Croatia, too; and - like you - I'm not a horse person but when you get to see them they truly are amazing!
I love the way the lemon slice looks tiny on the Schnitzel! :)
Thank you! Unfortuantely, we could only catch a short glimpse of the Hundertwasserhaus on our way to the Prater, but we befriended a little old dog who lived inside the house, and his owner told us that it's as fantastic inside as outside. :) Gah, so much more to see! I can't wait to explore Schloss Schönbrunn next time around!

Isn't that where they originally came from? The guide explained how difficult it was to find a new home for the Lippizans, as it had to have the same climate and altitude as the old one; otherwise the breed would have adapted to the new climate and changed. D'oh, never thought of that.

It was HUGE. Haha! You should have seen my face! :-D But I managed it all; it looks huge but it's very thin, but yes, I felt like I'd just been served with an edible baking tray! :D
places of worship with the charms of a shoe factory. *nervous twitch* I really can't get why 90% of modern architecture is oh! so artistic, and meaningful, and whatever, but is never allowed to be just good looking. *goes back to gape at Stephansdom's pulpit* (Privately I always prefered gothic over baroque.)
some people insisted that they notice the "stench of death" and wanted to leave. Drama! I imagined the tour guide who at last manages to finish his words amidst the hysterical crowd, shouting: "...but the real ones got lost, so we put plastic replicas there!" Then I'd like do see faces of these owners of the extraordinary sense of smell. *g*

Me neither! It's one of my pet peeves. We have the "famous, brilliant, visionary bla bla bla" architects Herzog & de Meuron here, who bury our country under clunky, ugly concrete slabs which are nothing but expression of their giant ego. But the are praised from all sides. I don't get it. Future generations will take us by the collar, shake us and ask what the hell we've been thinking to allow them to ruin our city like that. *argh*

Haha, he should have done that! :D But I guess he was already used to that reaction, he just continued with his tour and ignored them.

They can't even age nicely! Gothic cathedrals or even poor wooden cottages gather pretty patina, moss, lichen, whatever. But modern ones? They gather only poor graffiti and protruding rusty rebars, ugh. I walk to work a nice avenue, trees and flowers and something in the middle of a small lawn, acutely resembling a singed, beheaded human corpse in a tender hug with a singed ram corpse on a small pedestal, and I'd rather something other there... preferably NOT artistic! At least not in this way. What's wrong with some old fashioned lions or guys on horses... *sigh*
40 minute - AND IT WAS SO WORTH IT! YAY! Schnitzel and potato salad and repunzel and Himbeerkracher! Whooot! \0/
You've been there too? Did you also try the Schnitzel, or did you tug into the Tafelspitz? The place is so lovely, and the service was stellar. Next time I'll make a reservation, though!
