G.A.W. (Ginger Appreciation Week), Day 3: The Fictionals

Feb 22, 2012 11:46

Looks like the G.A.W. is one big trip back to my childhood (and that's great fun!)

As far as gingers go, she was the unchallenged idol of my childhood:

Pippi Longstocking aka Pippilotta Viktualia Rullgardina Krusmynta Efraimsdotter Långstrump(as portrayed by Inger Nilsson)

I loved and still love just about everything about her, from her clothes to her ( Read more... )

Idefix is my hero!

Next to Asterix in Switzerland (*howls with laughter just thinking about it*) is Asterix in Britain which I bought in Isca :DDDDD

I wish somebody would write a Tintin/Asterix crossover, in which Idefix and Snowy save the day!

Asterix in Switzerland is priceless - AND SO TRUE! Gods, I wish I could say it isn't, but it's so, so typical. And I've come across more than one Feistus Raclettus here!

"In den See! In den See!"

Asterix in Britain

Ahahah! THE RUGBY GAME! Not much has changed, especially if you look at the traffic jams in Londurium. *snigger*

I'd be hard pushed to choose between Asterix in Switzerland and Asterix in Britain :D Though Asterix and the Great Crossing is another great favourite of mine. We bought daughter Asterix the Gaul for Christmas and she is besotted already!

I had to google Idefix btw, I know him as Dogmatix :)

rather than censoring books like "Tintin in Congo", I'd suggest special editions that come with a documentary, explaining why those views were held and why they are wrong.
THIS. Censoring them means only that someone will write them again. Explaining them can avert it.

What esteven said, thanks for Idefix! ^^ And the "Switzerland" book is traumatic in places. I always sided with the owner of the clean profaned floor. *shudder* *sniff*

Asterix in Switzerland could actually pass as a documentary. It's so true! Agree with you, poor inn keeper, having to ruin his own floor! My favourite scenes are the "Fondue orgies"; the Romans aks for the whip to punish the guy who lost his piece of bread in the fondue, and the Swiss servants has just washed the whip and explains that it's not dry yet! Genius.

Pippi långstroum! She's my idol as well, even though the social workers tried to take her away.

I've never read any of the green gables books (my mom said she loved them, but unfortunately there were only Enid Blyton and "Carolyn Keene" books in our class room to choose from), so I did watch the series, and unfortunately megan follows bears enough resemblance to have me watch the series x)

Thank you for reminding of the G.a.w. Need to go through the photobucket album for some of the goodies.

Pippi must have been very revolutionary back in the days; self-determined kid doing what she wants and not taking any orders. Probably the nightmare of all authority figures. If I had kids, I'd let them watch all the movies and read all the books. Pippi pretty much covers my ideas of "ideal child". :)

Little Orphan Annie. Or was she there and I'm blind? (I would not be surprised.)

Pippi was, along with Neverending Story, my first huge case of "Disappointment with a movie adaptation". I'd so looked forward to some scenes (particularly on Taka-Tuka-Land) and then they weren't there or they were all different! THAT SUCKS!

I'm missing Wickie on your list. ;_;

I used to love Enid Blyton as a teenager. Now I read the books in some puzzlement, wondering why I didn't notice even then that... pretty much every book is exactly the same. Nothing wrong with cashing in on a formula if it works, but damn, SO OBVIOUS!

Also, Asterix in Switzerland is possibly the most quotable of all Asterixes. And they're all pretty quotable...

(Icon chosen for further redheadedness. ^^)

I first saw the movies and then read the books, so I probably got a different view on it. Have you ever seen the American Pippi movie? Now THAT was terrible.

Not thaaat much of a Wickie fan, but you're right, he should be there. Have you seen the movie, btw.?

every book is exactly the same

True! I think that was one of the things grating on my nerves. Never change a winning horse...

Icon love, of course!

No, I just know the Inger Nilsson ones. Probably better that way!

Awww, I love Wickie! First fandom I wrote fanfic for! It was horrible. My mother probably still keeps it somewhere so I can't destroy it.
I've seen the first movie, yup - not the second, though. I was positively surprised. With the combination of Bully Herbig and the general difficulties of recreating animé with real actors, I would've expected the material to get a much less loving and respectful treatment.
I read all the books, too, back in the day. Good times. ^^
I suspect that my adoration for red hair actually hails back to watching Wickie religiously.

Considering how much I love red hair, it's shameful how few icons of pretty red-headed people I have. ;_;
