Two thoughts:

1) I think Becks does recognise him, he's just baffled at the question "Who am I?" and doesn't know he has to answer with that infamous "Captain Jack Sparrow" line. (But if he really doesn't recognise him, that'd be cute and weird and funny and "awww..." and "yay!".)

2) Also, I guess James says that he is one chapter behind Gibbs, meaning he's not lying in a pigsty yet.

You are biased, my dear. Cutler Beckett could run with a red-hot poker after Jack, and you'd find it cute. ;-) :-P (He is cute in that scene, though. The expression on his face - priceless!)

But I really think he didn't recognise Jack because he has changed so much. The "one chapter behind" is said to Gibbs, but I still think the remark is not about Gibbs (see my comments above).

I wonder how the movie will end for Cutler Beckett, though...

I can't say I wouldn't.

I think he dies (not a spoiler, just a thought). Because, hey, he's the villain.

And not even a "I started the mutiny because the Pearl deserved a better captain." - "Ah, I see, alright." or "That b*tch made me tear outmy heart and now I'm mean to people." - "Oh, okay. Fair enough." kind of evil. Just plain egoistic, malpractise-in-the-name-of-homecountry-ish, pimping-in-the-name-of-EITC-esque.

Not that that's not cute, of course. :3

He's too good a villain to kill him off. Cutler Beckett and Mr. Mercer are evil enough to fill ten POTC movies.

You make sense.
But I fear that, between seeing Norrington dead or seeing him branded, I'd still rather choose not to see AWE at all.

I'm getting close to the point where I might not see it until I know the fate of Norrington for sure.

I know the feeling :)

even if to me is more of a "I will not see it until I know for certain they have in post-production a POTC4: "The Royal Navy is back in all his pristine glory and full complement of lieutenants and marines (and we swear on all things holy a) this will happen from the very start of the film, not in deleted scenes or just two and a half milliseconds before the credits start to roll; b) your eyes will not be offended any more by the sight of mustard-like Ikea uniforms)" feeling ;)

As for the title: I like it!
