The talked until the bar was almost empty, the barman putting stools up around them but leaving them in peace. The Captain sighed as the last other customers left and turned to her new friend at last, sliding to her feet slightly unsteadily. "I guess I should get going. It was a pleasure meeting you Lee." Lee smiled and stood too, slipping on her black jacket with a sigh.
"I know this is going to sound so cliched but I only live around the corner if you fancy a coffee or something?" The Captain hesitated.
"I really should get back."
"What are you afraid of?" The Captain smiled sadly and reached out, pulling Lee to her, wrapping one arm around her as the other reached up to hold her face and kissed her tenderly before pulling back again.
"Myself. I'm sorry." Lee shrugged and reached up a hand to hold her face gently, mirroring the gesture.
"Don't be. Maybe I'll see you around sometime."
"Maybe." The Captain turned and walked away slowly, her jacket swung over her shoulder and hat back on her head. It was for the best. As she slipped out past the barman she pulled the key from her pocket and slipped it around her neck on its fine silver chain. She then moved into the shadows, still as a statue and watched as Lee left, following her at a discreet distance. She wasn't even sure why she was doing it.....
They were almost out of the centre when Lee ran into the stag party from earlier, a lot more worse for wear now and twice as boisterous. The Captain hung back, watching as they spotted Lee and lewd remarks echoed out across the street, making her speed up slightly. She had almost passed them when a hand shot out and held her arm, not letting her pass. The Captains face darkened as she crept closer, sticking to the shadows, unnoticed by the men. The others were cheering him on slightly as he held Lee firm, not letting her escape as they leered and commented. The Captain crept closer, willing them to let her go. Then the man lunged forwards, pinning her to the wall as he tried to kiss her, her scream echoing through the street as he moved. In a flash the Captain ran forwards and pulled him off, punching him in the face and breaking his nose easily as she knocked him to the ground. Two of his mates decided to have a go and soon joined their friend in bleeding on the floor. She had fought aliens, soldiers and her own family and had been trained in self defence by a man who had lived through more wars than they could imagine. Like she was going to lose in some backstreet brawl with a bunch of drunken idiots. The others backed off slightly as she grinned evilly, an air of power about her that even these mere mortals could sense on some level. She turned to Lee and held out her hand.
"Are you ok?" Lee nodded quickly and grabbed her hand, still slightly shocked by the turn of events. The Captain sighed as one of the group, drunk as he was, decided he would somehow have more luck and started to move towards them again. The Captain tightened her grip on Lee and grinned at her wickedly. "Then let's run." Lee nodded and took off, pulling the Captain with her as they sped off into the night....
