Best thing: Ignore. Believe me it's not worth it.

My blood pressure agrees.

It's mostly reassuring to know that I'm definitely not alone in this case.

Yeah, I get that mom means well and I appreciate her trying to be my personal cheerleader, but it is indeed maddening when she keeps making the same suggestions repeatedly. This is after I've tried to explain that while the things she suggests are indeed writing-oriented, they're not really journalism.

I have concluded that she is trying to convince me otherwise by wearing me down or is blatantly ignoring what I've said.

I'm a journalism student, so at this point I've learned just to nod and smile when people tell me about how I'll never ever get a job. (They might be right, of course, but I love it, it's too late for me to change majors and there's no law forcing me to stick with it after I graduate, so...pointless much?)

I have the opposite problem. All my friends are convinced that because I appear to know what I;m doing, to them, I'm massively employable and papers will be falling over themselves to hire me. No guys. I'm probably fucked, but thanks for your support.

At least they get that we drink a lot.

No advice, but you aren't alone. My mother is continually telling us (my husband and I) to write newsletters for hospitals.

Wait, what?

I DON'T GET IT EITHER. D:

I'm like, "Mom, that's handled by their PR." "Well, it's a writing job at least." At that point, I go consult with my friend Jack Daniel for a little while until the rage goes away.

You could tell her to shut the fuck up. That's usually what I do.

Usually I try to explain the facts for about ten minutes, then it devolves into an argument, then we change the subject.

Sorry, I know that's not very helpful. :P

This is pretty much how things play out for me too. ;)

I'll let you know if I find something that works.
