Robotech

Chris and I were watching Band of Brothers after we finished all five seasons of Babylon5 (plus the B5 movies). We watched Flags of Our Fathers and Letters from Iwo Jima between BofB episodes. But now they're all done ( Read more... )

I LOVE Robotech!

Ok...

The box set is the first three series, Macross+Southern Cross+Genesis Climber Mospeada (known in the States as Macross+Masters+New Generation.)

Macross Plus is a different movie/series all together.

Shadow Chronicles came out last year as a movie that continued where New Generation ended (it's set several years later.)

Now for even more awesomeness...

Check out Macross Zero (FRAKKING AWESOME ANIMATION) for the very beginning of everything Macross/Robotech.

And for the most recent stuff, check out Macross Frontier. This takes place after all the series and movies (even well after Shadow Chronicles.)

Neat! So Macross Plus is totally different characters? Maybe Macross Zero was the one I saw. I remember the animation being way awesome.

Thank you! I've been dying to re-watch all of these in order.

Yea, Plus is separate from the original three series. The animation was pretty decent. It came out after New Gen, but I can't exactly remember its place in the timeline.

Zero is just all sorts of awesome. It features a young Roy Fokker leading the newly formed Skull Squadron (if I remember correctly b/c it's been a few years since I saw it) and takes place years before Macross Saga. It's only 5 eps.

And what's really cool - in the Macross Frontier series there's a storyline where the main characters help a movie production, and the movie is the story that makes up Macross Zero! Frontier just wrapped last year, so won't be out in the States for a while (but you can torrent it!)

Wha?!??!!? I've been dying to own all five season of B5! I even tried to get Mario to Netflix it but he couldn't get into it (THo I think we only watched the first DVD).

Hrm I wonder if they still have it on thier website . . .

You can borrow them if you want, I think it is about 40-60 hrs of viewing

Yeah, I got the whole B5 set, too. And the original Macross box set, FWIW. Collecting dust - they want to be watched! =)

BTW, the box sets, at least the one I got, were a rip-off. It's divided up into 6 boxes, each box has 3 DVDs, 2 with episodes and 1 with extras. That's 6 extras DVDs, and they're basically filler: pics you could probably google for in a few seconds and, out of all those discs, just ONE animation feature which looked it was done by Filmation (think He-Man quality and style).

I'm not a Robotech or anime fan at all, but I absolutely love the 4-part Macross Plus series. I've watched it something like 10 times over the past decade or so. Yeah, it's a self-contained deal.

Thanks. I may have to pick that one up after we finish the main series. It looks pretty cool.

I am a big Robotech and B5 fan (I am watching all of B5 with a friend currently because she has not seen it). I got all 5 seasons plus the movie collection for $200 on a website about 2 years ago or so. I would love to pick up the Robotech DVD's for myself one day.

CHeck out Robotech.com for more info about the Robotech universe.

Here is a link to my LJ entry with a video of the Shadow Cronicles trailer.

There is only the one feature length movie so far, but it is awesome. They are hoping to do more from what I understand.

Get the movie version of series 1 if you can, it's by far better!

I agree. I remember seeing it. I just don't remember what it was called. I have a recorded copy on VHS somewhere. I think it was taped off Sci-fi Channel or Cartoon Network in the early 90s.

It's been so long, the name totally escapes me now. I haven't seen the series in about 20 years, and only caught the film a few times at conventions, probably 15+ years ago.
