How I Spent My Summer "Vacation"

Sep 20, 2009 21:22

I guess it shouldn't be surprising that, in this economic climate, "my shirt is bankrupt" (coined by scifantasy here to mean that one is behind on posting; the original expression regarding "bankrupt pants" was invented here), at least in terms of what I've covered over the past couple of months.  This is my attempt to fill in gaps.

I was the woman who gave gee_tar "obviously not the worst advice he's ever received". It was nice meeting you this past summer!

Your shirt is again bankrupt! Eat First has karaoke?

Glad to run into you last night - am curious: what did you think of the lesson/dancing?

Eat First has a karaoke room above the main dining area.  I had pre-reserved the room, and the only cost was a $5 cover for each person, which included one drink (I enjoyed a strawberry daiquiri, a beverage I discovered while on the show).

I enjoyed the dancing, but I had expected more structure.  Also, having rotated partners once, I expected additional rotations.

How are dance lessons elsewhere?

usually the instructors at minimum know the material. to be brutally honest, these folk didn't know mambo, though they probably knew blues and definitely knew a bunch of swing variations - she's won competitions in lindy and balboa.

how much rotation is variable. It's usually intended, but sometimes instructors forget. some instructors permit folk who really don't want to rotate to not rotate, but it's usually a good idea to rotate partners.

i tend to spend time with Flyingfeet, who teach Monday nights at Glen Echo. There are of course a bunch of other places to learn Swing and Ballroom, though I'm less familiar with the North. ChilesSwing up in Catonsville is likely okay for swing/lindy - I think I've done a class or two with him back when Frankie would come through Baltimore.
