Do you really need to be recorded?

All of this talk about Facebook, the wide open internet, social networking, and that myriad of technological and other sundries has made me think about the concept of legacy. Many of these same things have been running through my mind as well. What I found unsettling was my need for reaction when I posted on facebook. I still do that here, but since there are only 5-6 of you it is less of a need :-). Plus, I feel this setup is more conversational. What is interesting is that most of the people I communicate with here are not people I know outside of LJ. That is kind of refreshing, like a separate group of friends.

I was wasting so much time thinking of clever things to say, just to get laughs out of my "friends". Don't get me wrong, I miss it sometimes. But I will live (I think).

Yeah, unsettling is a good word for it. I didn't realize how much I had come to rely on that until I decided I wouldn't post stuff. I've broken that rule a bit just to post more news that has come out about Facebook and one "hi" message. But yeah, you really start shooting for the comments or the "thumbs up" and it just starts taking over, really.

Craziness.
