Dawkins Upsets Muslims and Muslim Apologists by Speaking a Truth About Muslims

Aug 09, 2013 13:14

Courtesy of "The Week":

CONTROVERSIAL atheist Richard Dawkins sparked yet another row on Twitter after posting a tweet, apparently apropos of nothing, that declared: "All the world's Muslims have fewer Nobel Prizes than Trinity College, Cambridge. They did great things in the Middle Ages, though."

First of all, note The Week's implicit ( Read more... )

This was a pretty epic takedown as usual but I'm not so sure about the Peace Prize after they gave it to Obama for being "not Bush". That prize is more and more becoming a joke.

Admittedly, it goes both ways: there are probably muslims more deserving than other winners and then there are muslim Nobel Peace Prize winners like Yasser Arafat.

And giving it to Al Gore for making stuff up in a documentary.

I lost all respect for both the Nobel and the President after that incident.

"It's ridiculous to view it as some sort of failure on the part of Islam," he says. "Rather, it shows that modern science (by which I mean academic, research-intensive science) has been and remains an overwhelmingly Western phenomenon."

...really?

Have you read Fallen Angels by Niven, Pournelle and Flynn? (You seem to have read most everything, but it also seems presumptuous to start without an intro." The whole bit about "materialistic sciences" (aka real sciences) and how the dominant culture in the book disparaged the scientific method as being a product of white men, for white men... I'd definitely seen the echoes in our society, but this may be the first time I've seen it so directly invoked.

(This is one of the books I read halfway through before losing in my utter mess of a room at the time, along with Stephenson's Snow Crash. I really need to pick up new copies of each...)

Fallen Angels was quite good, having read the entire book.

Yes -- in fact I recently re-read Fallen Angels. I remember the insane self-delusions of many of the politically-correct people in that story, including the part where they were giving astrology equal time with astronomy because objective science was just a "Western male hetronormative" concept. Fallen Angels was satire, but it was satire very firmly grounded in the actual philosophies of the radical Left.

Fallen Angels was written a long time ago, 1990 or 1991, I believe. It's just another example of how it's impossible to parody the left. They are already a seff-parody. Unfortunately for the rest of us, they have a modicum of political power. Niven and Pournelle may have intentioned it as a warning. Moonbats looks at it and think: "Good idea!"

It's like Orwell's 1984: Orwell thought he was writing a warning, not a HOW TO manual.

Dawkins is factually correct.

Dawkins is also know to be an ass, even amongst atheists.

But frankly, Muslims need to be insulted more often. Maybe the world will begin to realize that they are not the "Religion of Peace" they paint themselves to be.

"But frankly, Muslims need to be insulted more often. Maybe the world will begin to realize that they are not the "Religion of Peace" they paint themselves to be."

This, exactly. One just needs to be careful where they do the insulting so as not to have a mob of hundreds to thousands of angry, angry muslims descend on them. Which would of course prove the point even more.

I always figured the point had been proved by "Let's riot and kill people because Franklin Graham said we're angry and violent!" But that is apparently insufficient for the masters of nuance.

"Angry Muslims": that could be a video game like Angry Birds.

Thirdly comes the crowning absurdity: "Modern science ... remains an overwhelmingly Western phenomenon."

Yes, Mr. Jones. That's Dawkins' point. Thank you for agreeing with him.

I think you’re missing what the fatuous Mr. Jones fondly believes to be his point. That is that the wicked white Westerners who give out the Nobel prizes only give them out in racist imperialist fascist sexist this-ist that-ist and the-other-ist fields like physics and chemistry, the rules of which are rigged so that only the melanin-deficient can succeed in them ( ... )

After I read out Jordan's post to Rhys, he remarked "perhaps if they gave out Nobels for suicide bombing, things would be different."

I pointed out that Arafat got the Nobel Peace prize... "Oh well there you go then!"

Mind, I don't like Dawkins; but he hasn't said anything that isn't factual in this case. The handwringing responses of the Muslim Apologist Brigade aka the Dhimmitude, is hilarious though.
