Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Refused to Permit Marines to Guard US Diplomats in Libya

According to Powerline, "The Marine Corps Involvement in Egypt and Libya,"

In Libya, the Corps says that no Marines are stationed at the Embassy in Tripoli or the Consulate in Benghazi. Security in Libya, such as it existed, apparently was provided by contractors. The Rules of Engagement under which they operated are unclear.

I hope that Hillary Clinton's political opponents in both parties were paying attention.

The GOP assuredly were not, as usual.

I hope Romney comes out with a strong, unequivocal statement that shows he understands what's going on.

It's worse, they're are actively trying to imprison a person alleged to have made the film.

Yes, by using the excuse that he violated parole by doing so. They may be technically correct (it would depend on the exact terms of his parole and the exact nature of his involvement in the online distribution of the film), but it is clear that their real motivation is to punish him for his dissent.

Again: I hope the Republicans are paying attention to this and will use it against Obama in the general election.

When are Americans finally going to get it into their heads that you simply cannot allow liberals/progressives (which these days means Dems) near the levers of state power?

I'm thinking that Obama is providing the whole country with an object lesson on just that topic, right now. And conveniently doing so right before the Presidential elections.

If America can't vote him out under such perfect circumstances, we may be headed toward decline, and not just as a Republic.

When the swill runs out. As long as they've got their noses in the trough, they will vote for it and all its baggage.

No, come to think of it, after. And after their infantile riots have failed to bring the swill back.

And after their infantile riots have failed to bring the swill back.

That's already happened: note the complete failure of the Occupy movement.

You've overlooked something. No, there were no US Marines, but there was “a robust American security presence inside the compound.” She mentions this twice - a “strong US security presence.” Who? Mall security rentacops?

2 retired seals serving as investigators on unrelated issues. Not armed (until they took guns from the attackers).

Much as I admire the SEAL's, two unarmed ex-SEAL's are hardly a "robust American security presence." I'm guessing that they weren't able to arm themselves until the attackers were within the compound, at which point it was probably too late to save the Ambassador and definitely too late to prevent the compound's seizure.

She never gets specific about this "security presence," and the lack of Libyan women wailing over dead Terrorists makes me deeply doubt their existence. Or suspect that they were ordered to be armed with NerfBlasters (tm) lest they accidentally discharge a firearm and offend the Libyans, or something like that.
