Obama's Jimmy Carter Moment

Aug 02, 2012 06:01

A lot of people are criticizing Barack Obama for the military intervention against Gaddafi in Libya and the pressure he's put on Bashir Assad in Syria.  I find it difficult to join in this criticism.

Yes, the Libyan dictator has been, and the Syrian dictator is likely to be, replaced by virulently anti-American regimes.  And yes, Obama is as ( Read more... )

I cannot decide if Morsi is playing politics when he talks out of both sides of his mouth. On one hand, he wrote actually a very nice letter to Israel saying he hopes Egypt and Israel can have better relations. On the other hand, he tells his people he plans to cancel treaties with Israel. What is what he really thinks? Or is he just trying to calm down the anti-Israel virulence of the general population while being pragmatic in actuality?

I feel as if it is akin to Democrats and Republicans saying certain things that I don't think they necessarily believe but say it to calm down the fringe of their respective parties.

Or, is he trying to lure Israel into a sense of complancy? Honestly, I don't think he would be able to "march to Jerusalem" as claimed because the military is, despite its many, many flaws, a bit pragmatic and know a war with Israel won't end very well.

Standard arab doublethink/doubletalk. He knows there are leftist peace-at-all-costs idealistic Jews who will eat it up and make internal problems for his adversaries. At the cost of a letter that no one in his country will expect him to mean (because he wrote it to Jews) it's essentially free.

The military knows that fighting Israel is a few different kinds of suicide. That just means they can move to proxy war and smuggling weapons to terrorists on the border that they just don't have the manpower to stop, shucky darns.

My big hope in the Egyptian situation is that the military will overthrow the Islamic radicals, since the military will be the ones who die like flies should they have to fight Israel.

Obama does not believe Israel should exist. Obama is not proud of the USA and believes it is a wicked country and has no understanding other than of what he was indoctrinated with by his various mentors as he was growing up. He also believes that Islam is superior to all other beliefs and has stated that he would/will stand behind Islam before any other. Just saying

Sure, but Obama has said other things to the contrary. Really, one reason why the man is such a null is that he says whatever his audience wants to here. The only constant is that he is a Leftist: on issues such as Islamism versus secularism and even versus Christianity, he is far from consistent.

The great thing about a democratic government is that you get a government that the majority of the people want. The bad thing about a democratic government is that you get a government that the majority of the people want...
