Ran into some people who are happy that we're pulling out of Iraq and wish that we'd pull out of Afghanistan, right now! When I asked them "What about the Taliban and Al Qaeda, wouldn't they just keep on attacking us like they did before 9-11?", it threw them into a ferment. Honestly, I think it's probably more cost effective to mount the occasional punitive invasion or bombing campaign than it is to occupy them long term. Our military is extremely good at destroying the enemy's capability to make war, much less so at nation-building.

I think you did a great job there against the odds of a lot of the usual BS. Good for you! Don't know if it makes any difference in the long term, but I have actually had some of my opinions changed a bit by discussions on LJ, but only after years and reading many links. Still, I'm impressed by your persistence and ability to articulate these positions.

I think *both* liberals and libertarians will tend to react in that same manner ... just one more evidence that, when we gwt down to brass-tacks, libertarianism is more left than right.
