I'm not sure who is funnier. shemale for its repulsive name and icons and all-caps shouting, or doombinis for the earnest lecture about how all white people need to feel guilty for "strucutral racism ( Read more... )

Reminds me a bit of a recent thread in which I pointed out that food was not a "right" any more than were clothing, shelter, a job you happen to like, etc. Some guy actually cited a couple of UN documents asserting that food IS TOO a right. SAYS SO RIGHT THAR. Well, I guess he showed me!

The term for this is in general "legalism," and specifically "legal positivsm." Your point was that food is not a natural right, becuase someone has to actually obtain the food through effort. His argument was that the UN is the legitimate world government and that it says food is a right. One good response is that the UN cannot change reality by proclamation.

Yes, plus we again have the dichotomy of "negative rights" of Classical Liberals vs. the "positive rights" of, well, collectivists and such.

And another is that his argument alone does not make the UN "the legitimate world government". That point alone invalidates the entire argument, considering it's the major premise, and false.

strucutral racismIf the writer means 'all people are racist' then, yes. Duh. People prefer to live, work and associate with people that look and think like they do ( ... )

"That makes 'racist' no longer an attitude or action, which means that white people need no longer feel guilty for it, since one only rationally need feel guilty for things one chose to do. Congratulations. You've just absolved all whites of racism."

That was fantastic.

I was practically raging from their arguments, the idea that I should feel guilt for my entire background is ludicrous.

I never understand why it's okay to be "Proud to be Black/Hispanic/Asian/Whatever" but you can't say "I'm proud to be White" You have to nitpick and say "Proud to be Irish" or "Proud to be German".

And even then it gets you called a racist nowadays [true story, been there, had it happen, many many times]

So, now I hear someone seriously saying that I need to feel shame because "my people" have been in power for so long and have "the system" set up to support whites only? I wanted to put a hole in the wall. It's that sort of thinking that is separating the communities in America.

Nobody can try and look past all of this shit. I still hear black kids at the college talking about slavery and saying how much it hurt them. I play Devil's Advocate with them, and they can't even answer how long they were enslaved or when they were set free.

Double Fucking StandardOh oh boy, I thoroughly enjoyed reading that piece ( ... )
