I read an article today that the one surviving terrorist of the Mumbai operation has confessed that there were 24 of them in his training cell (which trained for a year, at least with ISI knowledge and quite possibly with ISI help), and only 10 of those were sent on the Mumbai op. In other words, there are still 14 more waiting to strike.

The worry is that they're waiting for the heat to die down a bit, then they're going to hit Delhi.

The thing that boggles my mind about this is -- what the heck does the ISI think they're going to gain from this? Don't they realize that if they strike again, there's no way that they can avoid a war with India -- and one in which the Indian population will be fairly gung-ho for actually invading Pakistan?

Muslim male psychology, I think. Same reason the Iranians interfere in Iraq and arm Hezbollah, etc. They can't confront India/Israel/US directly so they play a game of chicken with these sort of underhand moves.

You have to realise that it's the nutters who go far in organisations like the ISI. Jingoistic zeal gets you promoted ahead of common sense.

India is right next door to Pakistan and not dependent on US military handouts. Consequently, she is motivated to fight rather than run, and cannot really be restrained by America. Not only that, America doesn't seem minded to restrain her.

Doesn't it bother them at all that they're all very likely to die now, and see their cause trampled into the dust by a victorious India? If they attack again, war is almost certain, and it's a war India is very unlikely to lose. Normally, I would expect India to be restrained from going for a decisive victory by internal political considerations, but right now the political considerations are mostly going the other way.

Serbia was in a better position in 1914!
