Abby strode into the ARC, messenger bag slung across her body and looked around. Spotting who she was after she marched over to Jess and grabbed her by the arm.

“You have to help me,” Abby whispered into Jess’ ear.

Jess looked startled. “What is it?”

“Look in the bag,” Abby said. “Discretely!” she added as Jess had started to pull something out.

Jess peered at the content of the bag.

“Oh my god!” she squeaked.

Abby clamped a hand over her mouth. “Shhhh!” she hissed, before releasing her.

Jess nodded, wide-eyed and curious, and joined Abby in shooting furtive looks around the room.

“Can you meet me later, to talk?” Abby asked quietly. “Somewhere private?”

“I can get into the rotas, make sure we both have lunch at the same time as long as there isn’t a…”

Jess was interrupted by the wailing of alarms. She gave Abby a sympathetic look.

“Sorry,” she said, taking her seat and dancing her fingers across her keyboard.

The room was suddenly full of running footsteps and men crowding around Jess’ workstation.

“Where is it, Jess?” Matt asked as the team surrounded her.

Jess gave directions and instructions, studiously ignoring Abby as she slipped the messenger bag over her head and quietly stowed it under Jess’ desk.

Hours later the team returned, jubilant in the wake of a successful shout with unconscious creatures being returned to where they belong, the anomaly being sealed and no one being injured in the process. The boys congratulated each other, high on adrenaline and a job well done, back slaps and laughter ringing through the ARC. Jess saw Abby walking alongside them and gave her a quick smile. Abby nodded in the direction of the locker rooms and disappeared.

Jess waited a few moments then smoothed her skirt down.

“Well, as that’s all over I’m going for a little break,” she announced to the room and the distinct lack of anyone paying any attention.

She stooped to pick up the messenger bag and headed for the ladies locker room. Once inside she saw Abby, dressed in ARC clothes, sitting on a bench toweling her hair. One of the female security members was also in there. Jess gave the woman her best glare, until with a small smile and a shake of her head the woman left.

“Did anyone see the bag?” Abby asked.

“No, it’s okay.”

Abby signed with relief and Jess moved to sit on the bench in the middle of the room, placing the bag down between them.

“There are so many,” Jess pointed out.

“I know, I know. I got carried away. I just couldn’t help myself.”

“Have you told Connor?”

“God no! And you can’t either.”

“I won’t, I promise.”

Abby hung her head. “What’s wrong with me, Jess?”

Jess gave her a reassuring smile.

“Nothing at all. It’s all to be expected. All you did was buy a couple… well, six, wedding magazines. It really isn’t anything to be worried about. It’s normal.”

“But there’s more. I’ve been looking at dresses. And not just one or two, loads. And I keep thinking about colours and colour schemes! And table favours! Until last week I didn’t even know what a table favour was and now I’m trying to decide between mesh bags or cute little boxes!”

Jess reached out and put a reassuring hand on her shoulder.

“You need someone to help you, someone to be your wedding planner.”

Abby lifted her head again and looked in Jess’ eyes.

“Where am I going to find someone who can do that?” she moaned.

Jess just smiled and watched the realisation dawn on Abby’s face, replaced by a slow smile of her own.
